Hard to Play

I finally got paid for the DIY website. Hurrah. So I've got myself the Penumbra Collector's Pack which includes the first game, Overture, the sequel, Black Plague, and its expansion pack, Requiem.

I'm also thinking about getting some wooden wasters, but that can wait until the end of the month. Training with a regular sword is one thing, but fighting phantoms doesn't prepare you for a real opponent.

Penumbra was difficult to pick up and start playing. Why? Because the demo already gave me the creeps and I know that there is far worse waiting for me with the full version. I've already been scared witless by that damned hellhound or whatever it is. The game's mechanics make for a very spooky atmosphere. Doors don't just open and close; you open them by grabbing them with the mouse and manipulating them like you would in real life. This means that I often find myself opening doors inch by inch because I'm petrified of what might be behind them.

I've done some more drawings for the webcomic-in-limbo. I've always thought that if I was ever going to write/illustrate a webcomic, that I'd make one or three strips in advance so that I could take it easy some weeks or just have something up my sleeve in case I got delayed on the latest batch of drawings.

Part of my hesitation in drawing the comic is that colouring them in requires a long time sat in front of my computer. I already do that all day at work, and I already play games, browse the 'net, and write up any RPG stuff on my PC when I get home... that's a lot of time in front of a monitor already.

So, to get away from the screen, I went for another walk on Saturday. This time near Netherfield. The woods there weren't as large as I had thought they might be, but maps suggest much larger woodland nearby, so next weekend maybe I'll try one of the neighbouring forests. I did see a buck, however; antlers and all. It stood proud and alert for a moment before bounding into the undergrowth.

I'm sure it's all the grimdark drawing I've been doing, but my mind keeps wandering back to Dark Heresy again. I don't have any players, however, and if I'm drawing this webcomic then I doubt I'll have much in the way of free time to prepare and GM any role playing games any time soon.
