I don't think I've officially stated this on my blog, but I have back IRL so I'm going to post it up here anyway.
I need to get the current occupants of the house together (cardboard box + string+ ruler + cheese) and find out what the current moving plan is. Because I'm not sure any one person really knows. In our last discussion Adam was still adamant that the whole HMO thing could be resolved, I let everyone know that I want to move out entirely on my own, Richard said that our current dwelling wouldn't be adequate for him (his philosophy has changed from futon, window, space to practise 'chuks to futon, window, space to practise 'chuks, garage), and the general unwillingness to become Mr. Thirdwheel in a three-occupant location comprising of Adam, Nicola, and one other was made by everyone who was not Adam or Nicola.
The other week, I heard from Richard that the "HMO thing" was looking good. Adam was supposed to be dealing with that but hasn't said anything yet. The reason I need to know is so that I can plan when I'm moving out. I don't want to leave the others twisting in the wind but I'm not going to wait another year to move out, heck six months would be too long.
I see things thusly: the original plan was to move to where we are now and move out again in the summer when Richard would have finished University so we'd all five of us be living together in a big house somewhere. It seems some people were more prepared to see the flaws in the plan than others; for a start the plan requires everyone to have the same mindset two years down the line, everyone would have to want to make long-term plans to live locally, and everyone would have to have the same mindset for a very long time once the move was completed because they would have committed to something they couldn't easily back out of.
Having shared private accommodation for two years now, I've decided that despite the costs I would prefer to live alone. I also have never wanted to spend much more time in East Sussex; and I don't think I want to make a big commitment to living in a big place here. There is also the element of my vocation to take into consideration since, as nice as Robertsbridge is, I never saw myself working here for very long anyway. Truth is, despite everything, I still don't have a direction to follow. I still don't know what I want to do for a job.
Moving out to a studio flat of my own would make the future easier for me though. With the money I've got saved I can afford the initial costs of moving out on my own and still have money left over in case I need it after I've actually moved. If another job or location that I want to pursue becomes available then I'll be able to set about it immediately rather than waiting on everyone else's plans to fit in with mine (which is what I'm doing at the moment).
There was a perfect, secluded, studio fat in Hastings available last week. I even went out and had a spontaneous viewing of it during my time off. If I could have done I would have put my deposit down right there and then - the flat was that good, and for less than £400/month too! Perhaps I should have gone for the place anyway. It would have been tight but I would have been able to pay the rent, taxes, and bills for the studio flat as well as my own food and my share of the rent and expenses for the house I'm at now. Then I could have told everyone I was moving out and terminating my contributions to the communal bills in so-many-months time. That would be plenty of warning for the others to pay heed to and at the same time I would have had a really nice place of my own with my savings being the financial safety net.
It so happens that I've decided to go down the more polite route of asking what everyone else's plans are first. That doesn't mean I will postpone all my plans for everyone else's, but it doesn't mean I expect everyone to kill their ideas for mine; we will all have to work towards a compromise.
