I am well on my way to truly hating my job. However, there are benefits to working out in the styx sticks. Yesterday was a snow day, which was wonderful. I found myself doing a little dance when I got the "you don't have to come into work" call.
Today is a snow day too. I had a contented smile when I heard the news, although you could guess the school wouldn't be open just by looking outside. If the snow is this bad on the coast, it's going to be much worse inland.
But because the site is out in a rural area and it's on the top of a sizeable hill, the school busses cannot guarantee they'll be able to get students to the gates in a safe or timely fashion in the mornings. It only takes leaves on the line for the rail service to become wildly unstable; so, in weather like this, you can be almost certain that the school will be closed.
I'm sure that for most of the teachers, especially the headteacher, it's annoying or even frustrating. It's even better for me than it is for the students; while they will probably have to work a little harder to catch up on their studies, I can sit back with the reassurance that while nobody is in the building, there aren't any problems developing.
