I would not be surprised if Mass Effect 2 was awarded Game of the Year. I might be disappointed if it does not.
It improves on the original title in so many, many ways. The story, the characters, the environments, the missions, the depth, the combat, the equipment, the consequences... it's all so much better.
I found the Insanity difficulty mode to be a little too difficult on my second play-through. I missed being able to have my Vanguard Sherpard falcon punch mercenaries into orbit.
The friendly AI is sometimes a little slow, but I hardly noticed it. I could go on and on endorsing Mass Effect 2, but I'm sure there are better things to do.
I read that Bioware wants to turn Dragon Age 2 into Mass Effect not in space. I'm not sure that's such a good idea. Mass Effect was a big step forward from the likes of KotOR*, and Dragon Age: Origins was a big step forward from Mass Effect. Mass Effect is a big step forward from Dragon Age: Origins. Making Dragon Age 2 a side-step would just halt the ball that Bioware's got rolling right now. Time will tell I suppose.
*Itself a big step forwards from Neverwinter Nights which was locked in what I would term "translation issues" from tabletop to desktop. Another topic for another time perhaps.
