Well my home PC is officially broken. On the blink. Not working. Totally FUBAR.
I tried to fix it by taking one of the RAM DIMMs out and it worked for a short while before crashing just like it usually does. So I turned the PC off and waited a while before trying the other RAM DIMM. No such luck. Now the PC sits there humming, the screen is completely blank (not even a boot-up screen) and if I try to use one of the DIMM slots the PC beeps loudly at me - a clear warning signal. So it's totally "effed". I tried it this morning to no avail. I have no idea what has gone wrong with it. I'm going to have to call Crystech's technical support and see how my warranty will be effected by this. It was iffy from day one but I put it down to old games not being compatible on new hardware.
Fortunately there's nothing on there that cannot be replaced. All my D&D stuff, all my drawings, and all my videos are on my flash drive in a backup folder (I should really get an external HDD to deal with that in the future).
The only thing I am concerned about is if the technicians at Crystech do manage to get my PC working without formatting the HDD they will have access to most of my Internet passwords that will be in Firefox's cookie list. So if they agree to fix it (and they damn-well should) I'm going to have to change all my Internet related passwords from work (and download STEAM and change my password for that). It's not that I don't trust Crystech specifically, I just don't want anyone having the opportunity to have any of my passwords. Is it paranoia? Not in this day and age. Call it "upholding the data protection act of 1998".
