I just got back from a midnight walk in my cloak, and what a buzz I got.
I've been out at night in my cloak before, but tonight was particularly breezy. It almost feels like the apparel has a mind of its own as it billows around, tugged every-which-way by the wind. I didn't go too far; just between some fields, through a small wood, and down a lane. I stopped when there was a big ol' spot light aimed at the path ahead and I couldn't see any alternate route.
There was no moon so virtually all the evening's illumination came from light pollution in town. I caught a glimpse of my faint shadow a few times; the billowing cloak breaking up everything identifiable as human. I'd like to go again with someone else just so they can tell me what it looks like. But being alone fires up your heart rate and I felt quite excited as I stalked around.
I saw three badgers, all of which scampered off into more dense undergrowth at my approach (relief!), but other than them I didn't meet another soul.
It occurred to me, as I made my way through a copse of trees, that someone hiding in undergrowth or a wood at night would be virtually impossible to find if you didn't have a light source. And even if you did have a torch or something you still might fail to locate someone who knew the area well.
In other news I'm back to work on Wednesday (ugh) and my bike is still awaiting the ABS sensor bracket so I have no idea when I'll be riding again.
