Play on...

The Nintendo 64 is working pretty well. There are times when it won't turn on immediately so you have to make sure the wiring at the back is plugged in solidly and that the cartridge isn't dirty but it gets there on the third attempt if not before.

While playing Ocarina of Time I managed to get out of Kokiri forest and into Hyrule castle before Nick accidentally kicked the plug on the wall and turned the N64 off. Before I managed to save. But don't worry Nick, I know it was an accident. I'll forgive you. If you see me hovering near the plug socket while you're competing for gold on F Zero-X, pay no heed. I won't swifty turn the console off just as you are about to cross the finish line. No. Not at all.

I'm apparently "too good" on Super Smash Brothers for Nick and Nicola and Adam won't even play it. Obviously they have never seen me try to beat Marcos and Sam. I played against Nick and kept winning until the handicap was at 8/2 at which point Nick was able to win matches (albeit with only one life left in Stock mode). I'm sure Sam will show him how bad I really am at SSB when he comes over for D&D on Sunday. I always used to play as Capt. Falcon while Sam played exclusively as Fox and Marcos generally liked to play as Kirby. Nick seems to be liking Luigi at the moment although I have been told that a perfectly "fair" battle is no items, fox only or somesuch. I don't know if that's for stock matches, timed matches, or both, or which level is considered "fair" either.

Adam and Nicola have ordered their share of games for the N64 as well. The list includes Turok 2 (hooray for the Cerebral Bore!) and GoldenEye. I didn't really get into GoldenEye as much as most players did. Maybe I was just enjoying the likes of Half Life too much. I liked Perfect Dark, but to me GoldenEye didn't really feel all that special. I suppose it was the Halo of the N64 but back then it still didn't seem, to me, that shooters belonged or worked on consoles.

Anyway. Yesterday I found a website called Dungeon Keeper Millenium which struck me with a large amount of nostalgia and almost made me reinstall Dungeon Keeper. I also found that the Dungeon Keeper intro that I uploaded onto YouTube happens to be the first result for a Google search for "Dungeon Keeper". I'm sure that's an acheivement of some sort right? Anyway, with my mind afire with imps, demon spawn, flies, and warlocks, I ordered Overlord for a rediculously low price on Amazon.

I've also ordered Unearthed Arcana after reading some of the material released onto the D20SRD, and the works of Ludovico Einaudi after hearing a certain piece on Classic FM. This piece is wonderful and the rest of Einaudi's work is not too dissimilar in quality.

The Dungeons and Dragons finale looms ever closer as Sunday approaches. Will the players be able to defeat the dread necromancer and stop the foul ritual? What will happen if they fail? What will they do with the Urn if they succeed? Sam has been emailing me lots of ideas he has for his character but most of them take place in the epilogue.

And soon Fallout 3 will be here. And Fable 2. And Force Unleashed. And Prince of Persia. Any more?
