Last week's jury duty was bloody exhausting.
I don't remember feeling as mentally drained as I did Friday evening. It was difficult just attempting to think about anything other than the case, the court, the jury, the barristers, or even the train journey to Lewes.
On Friday night I had real trouble getting my mind to quieten enough for me to get to sleep. I got ten hours of sleep, but even on Saturday morning I still had questions and statements buzzing around my brain.
My bike was due for its service, new clutch cable, and new tyres on Saturday so I crashed at the guys' house in Fairlight while the mechanics had their way with it. Just chilling out there and listening to the conversations everyone else was having was relaxing enough that I could forget about the jury duty and get on with my weekend.
Other than that, Saturday passed by without further ado as far as I can remember. I have some new Roadtek tyres on the Versys so I have to take acceleration, braking, and cornering easy until they've been properly worn in. The replacement clutch cable has made a big difference to changing gears smoothly too. On Saturday night I took a trip to the massive 24/7 Hastings Tesco and, although it was closed, met an old colleague from my time at Argos. She was just as surprised to see me and we had a short conversation as she waited for her taxi home. She cocked a quizzical eyebrow when my answer to "are you enjoying [your new job]" was not really. As if to ask why stay in a job you aren't enjoying. We spoke mostly about the changes in our respective occupations.
On Sunday I ran Dark Heresy and witnessed two very close calls. One could have ended for half the party, the other very nearly ended poorly for everyone involved. Fortunately for Nick and Sam, they managed a single incredibly lucky roll that saved their hide... for the moment at least. Let's just say they've made a name for themselves when they should probably have been laying low. They're still, justifiably, apprehensive about the world literally coming to an end any minute now.
I had the guys roll up a couple of Call of Cthulhu characters just for the experience and they got quite interested in how their characters were evolving, even if it was just the creation that they had partaken.
Although I haven't had much time this week because of my jury duty, I've been thinking of writing a second blog. One that would probably be a lot better than this one. Probably. The idea I had was to write short stories, maybe once a week or whenever the mood struck me, and to post them to a blog. If I decide to do it then I'll post a notification here. I should think I'll keep up with these entries regardless.
