I've been picked to sit on the jury for a case!
Of course, I cannot disclose any information about the case. But I think I can safely say that this will not be over quickly. The judge has warned that it is likely to go on for roughly ten working days. That's two weeks!
From an idle first week in which I do nothing... to a second week with a case that might roll on into a third.
I'm being merciful to the security guys by not riding my bike to the court. I can only imagine the profanity they would recite in their heads if they ever saw me stomp through the entrance way covered head to toe in bike gear. It's bad enough for them searching through bags, coats, and all the rest of it without them having to worry about a helmet, an extra layer of clothing, and the ridiculous amount of pockets that my gear has. Today I set the metal detector off despite emptying the contents of my pockets into the safety box provided. I don't know what tripped the alarm, but it happened after lunch as well and the hand-held scanner didn't pick anything up afterwards. I think some other jurors were also surprised to hear the detector beep at them, so maybe it was having an off day?
I'm not worried about the scare stories of such things giving you cancer. I'm either immune to radiation poisoning or I've already received a deadly dose of gamma rays just from sitting in that damned server room at work for hours on end.
