Lately, I've been having trouble sleeping.
As I've heard many people say, I can't remember the last time I had a good night's sleep. Only I can remember when I had a good night's sleep, and that was when I first moved in here.
If it's not strange dreams, it's strange changes in temperature. I'll go to bed chilly despite extra blankets, then wake up at three in the morning covered in sweat and all my bedlinen on the floor. I'm not entirely sure what the influential factors are. Diet? Exercise? Computers? Work? Light?
It's certainly true that, with my windows on street level with the hill across from me, I get street lamp illumination right through my window. Yes I have thick curtains hung up, but they don't stop it all. Light also comes in under the door from the communal hall light. If I opened my curtains, it would be enough to read by. As it is, it's just enough to make out individual books on my bookshelf, but not read the titles.
Also, what is happening with the sea? It's been calm as a mill pond for weeks now. It's as if the waters forgot how to rise and fall and form waves. At first I thought it was a moon thing. We're moving into spring and there was a new moon when I started noticing this. But we've got through at least two moons since. I also thought it could be my own timing. I get up every day at roughly the same time to go to work, and return at roughly the same time every day... but it's not timing. The sea's activity is the same in the dead of night as it is throughout the day. It's almost eerily still.
