It's Owl Good

After my previous post I can report that I have accomplished at least some of what I had planned on doing. I went out on a jog (and hope to do so again this evening), wrote up the rest of my latest dungeons and dragons adventure, and did some work on my PC which (for the moment at least) has cured the random halting, restarting, freezing, BSoD problems.

However, due to a lack of communication there was no D&D this week meaning all that time I spent trying to write, plan, and print everything was time rushed for no reason. Because we had some Gorkamorka games last Sunday (which would have been a WFRP night for Nick's group), someone thought that WFRP would be this week instead of D&D. However, neither I (the D&D DM) nor Nick (the WFRP GM) knew about this so whoever thought of this plan must have decided to keep it to themselves, simultaneously figuring that everyone else would pick it up by telepathy. Anyway, regardless of that - Bob rang to tell Nick that he couldn't make it. Half an hour after it would have started anyway. None of the other WFRP guys seemed to think that WFRP was on yesterday either though because they didn't turn up either.

On Tuesday I'm heading over to Bob's house after work to play Gorkamorka with everyone from the campaign (me, Nick, Will, Bob, Carly, Swede, and Tom). I'm hoping to get at least one match in with one of the new guys and/or launch a rescue operation to spring my mob's leader from Carly's mob's fort where he is currently being held prisoner.

I bought a Wolf touring jacket which works fantastically and so far it is a million times better than the Spada jacket I've got. I'll be keeping the Spada jacket for pillions although I've already got my old Frank Thomas jacket from when I was riding my CG125 around.

The Versys corners like crazy by the way. I have gotten rid of most of my chicken strips thanks to some mean corners in and around Kent on national speed limit roads. Also, while riding back from Bexhill with Richard as pillion I gave a countdown (although I think Richard missed it or its meaning), overtook a car and felt Richard's feet kick the back of my knees thanks to the acceleration. Good thing he practises with his nunchaku all day otherwise he might have lost his grip and fallen out of the back door. Every time I ride my bike I find out something new about it. Currently I'm finding out that for just 60bhp the Versys has more speed than an LSD specialist drug dealer. The Versys is not a race bike... but someone should have said that to the bike itself.

Oh, and this morning I was woken up by a barn owl at 02:30 and haven't had a wink of sleep yet. At first I thought the noise was coming from some nameless abberation; a dark and nameless thing that feeds off the nightmares it causes with its unearthly shrieking wail. Having heard it before and having been woken up by the monstrosity several times I did a web search for nocturnal wildlife in Britain and found a recording of a barn owl (also aptly named the "screech owl"). And what do you know - the noise on the recording was almost identical to the infernal squealing of the fiendish creature flying around outside.

It's hard for me to be angry at owls because I think they're awesome (although I'd much prefer to hear tawny owls outside my window than barn owls). But the fact that there are starlings nesting in a tree right outside my window and now on top of that I'm being besieged by a barn owl... well a man might be moved to a smouldering grudge if not anger.
