There is still no hot water.
I am having a lot of trouble re-adjusting back to "muggle" life after the long weekend at Corfe. When I'm supposed to be taking notes on the specification of a printer, or the problems plaguing a computer, or the number of free ports on a hub; I'm really thinking about combat techniques, the smell of woodsmoke that still haunts my coat, the noise of the 21st Century compared to the relative calm of life hundreds of years ago, and how damned comfortable that tunic was compared to a collared shirt.
So, my mind has not been present for most of this week. The lack of hot water means that I've been having trouble keeping hygenic. Washing cutlery and crockery to eat with/from has also been difficult.
Next week I start taking on some of the schools that I'll be providing ICT support for. I'll be all on my own, but the guys on the phone desks are just a quick call away and they've said that they're there to help me as much as they are there to help staff in schools.
I broke someone else's USB hard drive today. I dropped it and it didn't bounce. Hopefully that's the last sabotaging I'll do in this role. Those hard drives have some very impressive software on them, and it's going to be that much more difficult for the other guy to do his job now I've destroyed his number one gadget. The school I was at today, which is going to be the school I see the most every week by the looks of it, has also descended into laptop hell. I think the laptop/desktop ratio is something like 20:1. There are laptops everywhere, and they are, of course, all failing at once. I've got half a dozen parked in the server room right now, and I'm trying my hardest not to have to think about going back to them on Monday morning.
