Corfe Castle 2010

Corfe Castle was brilliant.

I'm not sure where I should start. The weather was not perfect, but we survived, and there was plenty of sun for the battles. The castle itself was very impressive, and I marvelled several times at how the tallest walls were still standing in defiance despite all that has happened to the site over the years. Everyone was super-friendly, and we all got on really well.

There was singing around the campfires at night, delicious meals by the campfires during the day, one evening featured the hand-fasting of two members of the Caent group, there was a guy who had a pet raven (called Muninn of course) and a pet wolf-dog.

There was the king, an abbess, a slave trader (who decided I would be a fine addition to his stock one afternoon), a leather worker, a carver, and dozens more craftspeople, not to mention the warriors dressed in chainmail, helms, and swords.

One day I was brought before the king to be judged for stealing a pair of hens (I was sentenced to have my hand cut off), and another day I was one of the men-at-arms dragging a chicken thief before the king.

The battles were exciting, as were the Circles of Honour and Circles of Treachery. I have plenty of bruises, but you don't notice them while you're enjoying yourself so much.

Despite it being such a great event, I admit that I was looking forward to a warm shower, and to lie down in my own bed. Unfortunately it seems that the hot water has gone bust again, so all my showers thus far have been incredibly cold.
